Hello, my name is Mark Beitz and I will be teaching either you or your child's social studies class this year. I am part of a larger group of 8th grade teachers on the "E" Team.
Before I began working here at SAMS,

I taught sophomores and juniors in the Mifflinburg Area School District

which is where I currently live with my wife, my son and our yellow lab, Gus.

I am originally from Jesup, Georgia a small town about one hour south and to the west of Savannah, Georgia.

My family moved to Pennsylvania when I was just starting junior high school to take advantage of a booming economy in textiles. I graduated from Milton Area High School in 1990.

Before I started my career as a teacher I served my country in the United States Navy for 10 years as a missile technician. I was fortunate to see many places in my travels on board 3 different nuclear powered submarines.

My favorite duty station was the Naval Submarine Base, Bangor in Silverdale,Washington (near Seattle.)

While I was in the service I received my Associate of Arts degree from Valdosta State University.

I then finished my Bachelors degree in secondary education at Bloomsburg University after I was honorably discharged from the service. I am currently working on my Masters Degree in curriculum and instruction from Bloomsburg.

Some of my favorite past times are spending time with my family, reading, playing ping pong, computers and traveling to Orlando, Florida, home of Mickey Mouse and Disney World where we usually go on vacation each summer.

My favorite sports teams are the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Atlanta Braves!
